  10. Anonymous asked: In your opinion, what's the impact of the popularity of Latin American telenovelas (not just imported from Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, but also made-in-the-USA telenovelas produced by Telemundo) on the traditional American soap operas in general?

I’m not very familiar with telenovelas a whole lot but from what I understand they have quicker resolutions. People enjoyed that so I think that American soap operas have adopted that format a bit more. It used to be a story arc on a soap could last for even a year but now they seem to be three to four month arcs. With the introduction now of the online soaps (yay, they’re back :) ) I think we’re going to see even more of it. I think that American soaps came to the realization that viewers are looking for a beginning, middle and an end to a story because of the popularity of that format in telenovelas. But like I said I don’t know a lot about telenovelas so I could be wrong.
